Tankless Water Heater Wiring

Replacing like for like still changes the load more often than people expect. Every large appliance has a circuit it expects, and the difference between 30 and 50 amps is not a detail.

Tankless Water Heater Wiring in O’Fallon and across St. Charles, St. Louis, Lincoln and Warren counties.

Owner-operated by Clint Ehman. Seventeen years in the trade, four of them running his own shop.

What this work actually involves

Disconnects and bonding are installed where water is involved, because that is what the code is protecting against.

The measurement happens before the number. You hear what the reading says in plain words, then what it means, then what it will take to fix. Where the fix is small you are told that rather than sold past it.

Permits get pulled where the municipality asks for one, and the work is left ready for the inspector with the panel labeled. The same person does the diagnosis and the repair.

When people call about this

  • A new range or dryer that will not run
  • A hot tub waiting on power
  • A breaker that trips on a cycle
  • An appliance with a scorched plug

Why people choose Clint for it

Nobody here earns more by finding more. That is the structural reason the small answer gets given when the small answer is true.

Where this is done

O’Fallon is home and the shortest drive. Beyond it, St. Charles County, St. Louis County, St. Louis City, Lincoln County and Warren County.

Read the data plate, not the old circuit

Every appliance states what it expects: volts, amps or watts, and often the circuit size. That plate is the specification, and a replacement appliance frequently asks for more than the one it replaced.

Same-size replacements still change things. Induction cooktops and heat-pump dryers draw differently from what was there in 1996.

Terminations are where it fails

Almost every appliance fault traced to electrical is a connection: a loose lug at the range, a backstabbed receptacle behind a refrigerator, a dryer terminal block never torqued.

Torque to specification is not a flourish. Manufacturers publish values because that is what keeps resistance low and heat out of the joint.

Electric water heater circuits

An electric water heater is a large dedicated load with a disconnect requirement, and most of the service calls on them are terminations at the top of the tank rather than elements.

The circuit is checked against the plate, the disconnect is placed where the code and the inspector expect, and the terminations are redone properly.

Why a new appliance exposes an old circuit

An appliance arriving is often the first time in decades anything asked that circuit for its rated load, and that is when a tired termination finally shows itself. The appliance gets blamed and the connection is the cause.

Checking the circuit against the new plate before delivery turns that into a planned half hour instead of a failed install day.

Why the diagnosis comes before the quote

A symptom has several possible causes with very different prices, and the only thing that separates them is a measurement. Quoting the expensive one covers the risk; quoting the cheap one and finding the expensive one mid-job is worse.

So the reading happens first, you are told what it says, and then the work is scoped to it. Where the honest answer is the small repair, that is the answer you get, even when the larger job pays better.

“Infinity came out for same day service after an electric line had been cut in my yard. He was able to locate and correct it very quickly, eliminating any risk of injury or additional power outage.”

How the visit goes

  1. The call

Which appliance, and whether it is new, replacing something, or failing.

  2. The measurement

The appliance’s data plate against the existing circuit, and the condition of the terminations at both ends.

  3. The finding

Whether the circuit is right, needs upgrading, or is fine and the problem is a connection.

  4. The work

Circuit matched to the plate, disconnect and bonding where water is involved, terminations torqued to specification, tested under load.

What the job includes

  • Circuit matched to the appliance’s own data plate
  • Disconnects and bonding where water is involved
  • Terminations torqued to specification
  • Correct receptacle or hardwired connection as the appliance requires
  • Permit and inspection where required
  • Testing under load before we leave

What it does not

  • Supplying or repairing the appliance
  • Plumbing and gas connections
  • Appliance haul-away

Work that is not electrical gets a referral, not a quote. See finished work, or say what the house is doing.

Tankless Water Heater Wiring across the metro

Housing stock varies sharply across the counties here, and so does the work. Same trade across five jurisdictions out of O’Fallon, with a different inspection process in each.

Lincoln County

Lincoln County is rural service: longer drops, well pumps and septic loads that city panels never carry, and outages that make backup power a practical purchase rather than a luxury.

Warren County

Backup power is a more common purchase out here, and when a well pump is the water supply the loads that matter are not the kitchen.

St. Charles County

Out here the panels are not old, they are full. Houses built through the 1990s and 2000s got services sized for the loads of their decade, and the loads have since changed.

The whole working radius is mapped on the service areas page.

Questions worth asking first.

Why did my dryer outlet burn?

Terminations at a dryer receptacle see heat and vibration for decades. Discolouration there is a connection problem, and the receptacle gets replaced rather than reused.

My new appliance will not run. Is it the appliance?

Often it is the circuit. The data plate states what the appliance expects, and comparing that to the existing circuit usually explains it in one visit.

Does a hot tub need its own disconnect?

Yes, with bonding, and placement is specified by code. It is one of the items inspectors check first on spa work.

What do your reviews say?

Who actually shows up?

Clint Ehman. Infinity Electric is owner-operated, so the person who answers the phone is the person who measures your panel and pulls the permit. There is no dispatcher and no commissioned salesman.

Ask what it actually reads.

You get the figure and what it means, before any work is agreed. Tankless Water Heater Wiring in O’Fallon and across the metro.
