Recessed Lighting Installation

Fixture spacing is arithmetic, not taste. Lighting is the part of electrical work people actually see every day, so layout matters as much as the wiring behind it.

Recessed Lighting Installation in O’Fallon and across St. Charles, St. Louis, Lincoln and Warren counties.

Clint Ehman does the work himself. Seventeen years in the trade, Infinity Electric since June 2022.

What this work actually involves

Switch legs are planned around how the room is used, and labeled so the next electrician understands the intent.

Nothing gets quoted off a description. The reading comes first, because a symptom has several possible causes at very different prices and only a measurement separates them.

Where a permit and an inspection are required they happen, and the site is left ready for them. One person carries the job from the first call to the final test.

When people call about this

  • LEDs that flicker on a dimmer
  • A remodel with no lighting plan
  • Fixtures older than the wiring
  • A kitchen lit by one center fixture

Why people choose Clint for it

A one-person shop cannot be in two places at once, so you get a real date instead of a window. What you also get is the same person every time.

Seventeen years in the trade, four of them on his own, 5.0 from 94 Google reviews and an A+ BBB accreditation since 2022.

Where this is done

Thirty towns across five jurisdictions, worked out of O’Fallon. The housing stock and the inspection process both change as you move across them.

Spacing is arithmetic

Recessed lighting is laid out from ceiling height and beam angle, not by eye. Too far apart and the floor scallops; too close and the ceiling looks like a runway.

Joist direction and position constrain where housings can physically go, which is why the layout is set before any hole is cut, and why remodel-rated housings exist for finished ceilings.

Switching as a layout decision

Switch legs decide whether a room is pleasant to walk into. The useful question is which lights you want from the door, which from the far side, and what you want on at two in the morning.

Three-way and four-way switching answers that, and it is cheap to plan and expensive to retrofit. Labeled legs at the panel mean the next electrician understands the intent.

Laying out recessed lighting so the room works

Spacing is the whole job. Too far apart leaves scallops and dark corners; too close reads like an office. Ceiling height sets the spacing, and joist direction decides where a housing can physically go.

On a finished ceiling, remodel housings go in from below so the ceiling is not opened up. The dimmer gets matched to the specific fixtures, because an LED on the wrong dimmer flickers at the bottom of its range and no amount of wiring fixes it.

What gets left behind when the work is done

A labeled panel, accessible junctions, the old parts if you want to see them, and a straight account of anything found along the way that was not part of the call.

Where something else was found, you get told what it is and whether it needs doing now, later or not at all. That third answer is a real answer and it gets used.

Who actually does the work

Clint Ehman does the diagnosis and the repair himself. There is no salesman writing a scope for a technician to execute, and nobody paid on what the visit totals.

Seventeen years in the trade, four of them running his own shop out of O’Fallon, licensed, bonded and insured with workers compensation coverage, 5.0 from 94 Google reviews, and A+ BBB accreditation held since 2022.

“Clint did an excellent job installing two bathroom exhaust fans. He installed high-quality fans that were far superior to the ones I had purchased from a big box store. I highly recommend his services.”

How the visit goes

  1. The call

Which room, what is wrong with it now, and how the room is used in the evening.

  2. The measurement

Ceiling height, joist direction and position, existing switch legs, and what the circuit already carries.

  3. The finding

A layout with spacing that works, a switching plan, and a dimmer matched to the fixtures you have chosen.

  4. The work

Boxes set where the fixtures need them, remodel housings cut in from below on finished ceilings, dimming tested on every circuit before the ladder comes down.

What the job includes

  • Layout set from ceiling height and beam angle before any hole is cut
  • Boxes placed where the fixture needs them
  • Dimmers matched to the drivers so nothing flickers
  • Switch legs planned around how the room is used
  • Fixtures installed, aimed and tested
  • Old fixtures removed and the openings made good

What it does not

  • Supplying decorative fixtures, unless you ask
  • Painting after a ceiling patch
  • Drapery and blind hardware

Work that is not electrical gets a referral, not a quote. Recent jobs are worth a look before you call.

Recessed Lighting Installation across the metro

Five jurisdictions, five different sets of conditions. Clint works out of O’Fallon across five jurisdictions, and the same service means different work in each.

Warren County

Two kinds of work share the same ZIP codes here: recent subdivisions with modern wiring and tight services, and farm properties carrying several eras at once.

St. Charles County

Condition is rarely the problem in St. Charles County. Capacity usually is, and the two have very different prices.

St. Louis County

The obsolete panel brands concentrate in this county, because they were installed through exactly the decades this housing was built and upgraded.

Every municipality covered is listed on the service areas page.

Questions worth asking first.

How many recessed lights does a room need?

Spacing comes off the ceiling height, and joist direction decides where a housing can physically sit. The layout gets drawn before anything is cut rather than counted off a rule of thumb.

Can you match colour temperature to my existing fixtures?

Yes, and it matters more than people expect. Mixed temperatures in one room read as a mistake even when every fixture works.

Why do my LEDs flicker?

Almost always the dimmer, not the bulbs. LED drivers need a dimmer rated for them, and matching the two fixes it without replacing fixtures.

How long have you been doing this?

Clint has seventeen years in the trade and has been running his own shop out of O’Fallon since 2022.

Describe the symptom, not the diagnosis.
