Electric Vehicle Charging Station Installation
Utility rebates and inspection requirements vary by municipality here. Most EV installs come down to one number: what the panel has left after everything else the house already runs.

What this work actually involves
If the service is tight, load management is an option that costs far less than a service upgrade and does the same job.
A number follows a measurement here, never a guess. You get told what the reading was and what it means before any work is agreed, including on the days when the answer is one loose connection.
Permitted and inspected where the address requires it, labeled at the panel, and done by the person who diagnosed it rather than handed down a chain.
When people call about this
- Wanting a second charger
- A charger moved from an old house
- A new EV on order
- A charger that trips mid-session
Why people choose Clint for it
There is no dispatcher taking a description for someone else to act on, and no commission riding on what the visit totals. The person who measures it is the person who fixes it.

Where this is done
O’Fallon first, then the rest of St. Charles County, St. Louis County and the City, and out to Lincoln and Warren. If you are just past that, the call is still worth making.

Where the charger goes and why it costs what it does
The run from the panel to the parking spot is usually the larger part of the install. A charger on the far side of a finished garage is a different job from one on the panel wall, and an attached garage is a different job from a detached one.
So the route gets walked before anything is priced: what it passes through, whether existing cavities can carry it, and whether the cable will reach the car’s port with slack on the side it actually parks.
Why charging is treated as a continuous load
The code treats anything drawing for three hours or more as continuous, and sizes its circuit at 125 percent of the draw. A car charges for hours, so a 48 amp charger needs a 60 amp circuit. That multiplier is why charging eats service capacity faster than its nameplate suggests.
It also explains why dialing a charger back is so effective. Dropping from 48 to 32 amps takes the circuit from 60 to 40, which frequently fits inside an existing service, and still fills most cars overnight.
Designing around the parking spot
Where the car parks decides the run, and the run is often the larger part of the cost. A charger on the far side of a finished garage from the panel is a different job from one on the panel wall.
The circuit is sized for continuous duty, the cable is mounted so it reaches the port with slack, and a test charge happens before anyone leaves.
Who actually does the work
Clint Ehman does the diagnosis and the repair himself. There is no salesman writing a scope for a technician to execute, and nobody paid on what the visit totals.

What makes this harder in older housing stock
Across this metro the recurring complications are predictable: no equipment ground, aluminum branch wiring from the mid-seventies, knob-and-tube buried in blown-in insulation, panels that have been added to several times, and splices in places the code has not allowed for decades.
Those turn a simple job into a decision about scope. The decision gets put to you with the reading behind it rather than made quietly and billed.
“Infinity came out for same day service after an electric line had been cut in my yard. He was able to locate and correct it very quickly, eliminating any risk of injury or additional power outage.”

How the visit goes
- The call
Which car, which charger, and where it parks. Those three answers decide most of the install before anyone visits.
- The measurement
A load calculation against the existing service, plus the run from the panel to the parking spot and what it passes through.
- The finding
Either the service carries it, or load management lets it share, or a service upgrade is genuinely needed. You hear which, with the number behind it.
- The work
Dedicated circuit sized for continuous duty, disconnect where the code and the inspector expect it, charger mounted so the cable reaches with slack, and a test charge before anyone leaves.
What the job includes
- Load calculation to confirm the service can carry the charger
- A dedicated circuit sized for continuous duty, on its own breaker
- Charger mounted where the cable reaches the car with slack to spare
- Disconnect where code and the inspector expect it
- Permit and inspection where required
- Conduit for a second charger while the wall is open, if you want it
What it does not
- Supplying the charger itself, unless you ask
- Utility rebate paperwork, though we will tell you what exists
- Charging network accounts and apps
Plumbing, HVAC and structural work get a pointer to someone who does them properly. Recent jobs are worth a look before you call.

Housing stock varies sharply across the counties here, and so does the work. Out of O’Fallon across thirty municipalities, where the permit process changes more than the work does.
St. Louis County
Older stock that has been worked on repeatedly, so a panel here has often been added to three or four times by different hands.
St. Louis City
Brick with plaster over lath, party walls that limit where a run can go, and a hundred years of electrical layers in the basement.
Lincoln County
Well and septic loads mean a failure is no water rather than an inconvenience, so those circuits get treated accordingly.

Questions worth asking first.
Can two cars share one circuit?
With load-managed chargers, yes, and for most two-car households overnight charging still finishes both. It is considerably cheaper than new service.
Can my panel handle a charger?
Often yes. The load calculation checks what the house already runs against the service rating. Where it is tight, load management lets the charger share capacity instead of forcing an upgrade.
Level 1 or Level 2?
Level 1 plugs into a standard outlet and adds a few miles an hour, which suits short commutes. Level 2 needs its own circuit and fills a car overnight. The honest answer depends on your daily miles.
Are you licensed and insured?
